How to Succeed in the T-shirt Business?

So I'm thinking about going into the t-shirt business with my friend Chris. We want to sell my 'high vibe' t-shirts on a mass scale---of course in a sustainable way, using environmentally-friendly and sustainable methods of production.

Anyway, after doing the math (factoring in the hemp shirts, toxic-free dyes, distribution, warehousing, labor, printing, etc.), we calculated that in order to meet a $20 price point, we would end up paying people $1.50 to wear our shirts. We have to get costs down, or compromise on quality and sustainability.

We strongly believe that one shouldn't have to pay a lot of money to be environmentally-friendly, so we would like to keep the $20 price point. Any ideas???

YESS!!! I have ideas on the subject and more. T-shirts are a fashion statement as well as a way to promote something you believe in. They are the first form of advertisement as personal as word of mouth but as powerful as glamourzines. But let's face it, we all have so much in our closets that our biggest challenge is getting rid of stuff, not bringing in new stuff. AND, the COST of making all this new stuff. How about making a cool T-shirt iron-on logo with fun photo/print that you can distribute for say $2 or whatever that works out to for time and energy to make them, then give those out and people can put them on their own clothing items! I'd do it! I personally own tons of clothes and would even donate some shirts and I bet all your friends would too!

That is a REALLY good idea. I make iron-ons anyway to spec up new shirt ideas. I'm going to take a serious look at that. Thank you!
